The LAUTRA Project aims to strengthen Indonesia’s coastal resilience by enhancing the management of marine protected areas and associated ecosystems, as well as coral reef fisheries. It also seeks to expand economic opportunities for local communities and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through sustainable capture fisheries, tourism, and aquaculture, while building government capacity to mobilize sustainable "blue" financing
Furthermore, the LAUTRA Project will improve the effectiveness of marine protected area management to ensure that these areas achieve their intended biophysical and socio-economic outcomes. The project will also enhance the integration of protected areas into broader fisheries and ecosystem management, support sustainable livelihood opportunities for communities residing in and around these areas, and address critical financing gaps to support project investments and ensure long-term sustainability of outcomes.
One of the key components of the LAUTRA Project is the provision of an Ocean Monitoring System (OMS). The OMS is designed to deliver digital infrastructure and tools for real-time, periodic, and up-to-date monitoring of marine protected areas, surrounding ecosystems, and activities occurring within and around these zones that may affect their condition.
This initiative aims to enhance the monitoring, utilization, and surveillance of marine protected areas through integration with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries’ Command Center. The system will serve as a basis for data-driven decision-making, with the ultimate goal of contributing to increased non-tax state revenue (PNBP).
